More about Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. During Ramadan, fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset by Muslims worldwide. In addition to fasting, Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-examination and giving additional charity to the poor. Ramadan is also about compassion and understanding the experience of those who have less than yourself. At sundown, there is a meal known as “Iftar”. For iftar, people gather with families, and friends, at home or in the community to build community and be in fellowship.
We welcome the Muslim community as well as others to join us and share in this iftar as a community. Hosted at by the San Francisco City Hall Iftar Coalition in partnership with the Mayors Office of Neighborhood Services.
